I would like to nominate Sweetie and Debbie, aka, Tie for Horse and Rider of the month for December.
As most of you know Deb has had a rough couple of months with her sorrel overo Paint mare,
Sweetie since Labor Day weekend. Sweetie injured herself in her stall at the Paint Show and
has since been at home healing and getting better everyday.
I have grown to know Deb since she bought a black and white tobiano mare from me a few
years back. Since then we have become the greatest of friends. And I have NEVER seen
anyone so devoted to caring for her horses as she is. They are extremely loved and cared
for. As you can always tell from her pictures on EE how well cared for they are... as well
as happy!!
And that is why I think that Deb and Sweetie deserve Horse and Rider of the month because
if Sweetie didn’t have someone like Debbie it’s hard to say what her future might have held.
It’s been a long road for the both of them but Sweetie is improving everyday. I think
they make a great pair. I know that Deb loves that little mare more than anything and it’s
not hard to see Sweetie loves Deb just as much.
And so that is why I nominate Deb (TIE) for Horse and Rider of the Month. She deserves it!!!
Keep up the good work Deb and Sweetie!!
I would like to nominate Joan aka Just Joan for Horse and rider of the month. Joan has proved to be a wonderful addition to the Equestrian East form.
She is always there to spread a kind word of support for those in need, offer her services, donate to fund raisers, and spread some much needed humor to help some of us through our days.
The most obvious showing of her generous and kind heart is demonstrated by the rescue of ClassEE. We have all seen the pictures and read the stories of the love and devotion Joan extended to a soul in need, and the results of that generosity.
Joan has touched my life on a personal level, by becoming a dear friend and confidant. She has lifted my spirits and those of my daughter, offered very constructive and wise advise, ( but only when asked), she is always up to the challenge of offering words of encouragement when we need it the most. My life is greatly enriched by her presence, and I know that she enriches the lives of all those she comes in contact with.
In getting to know Joan on a personal level I have learned that she is an accomplished horse woman. Horses have always been a major part of her life. She has had several horses during her life, some were with her for their life span, and others she rehabilitated to go on and make great mounts for others. Some of her horses, one in particular was paramount in her own recovery from a stroke. This leads me to believe that the horses that come in contact with Joan recognize a kindred spirit and return the love nd respect she demonstrates for them.
We don't often hear about Joan riding, but she does and can. She spent a few hours working with me and my horse while she was here visiting. I was in total awe of her riding skills and the training technique and patience with me regarding my fear of riding.
In closing I have added some pictures of Joan and some of the horses who have been a part of her life, some for only moments and others long term. Some of these pictures will display Joan’s contagious humor, her strong horsemanship, and her generous heart.
Please consider my Nomination of Joan Farrar for Horse and Rider of the Month for October.
Sincerely
Diana MacKay

I would like to nominate Just Joan for Horse and Rider of the Month. Joan is one amazing woman. She has rescued Classee and is getting her all geared up for riding. Joan has touched many lives in the riding community with her kindness and with her great horse sense.
Joan has personally touched my life. She is encouraging, understanding and supportive. She has helped me deal with not being able to ride and how it's ok, to just love a horse on the ground. She has helped me deal with depression and anxiety problems.
Joan is a true horsewoman. She loves her horses dearly and treats them better than any horse owner I know. She is magical to watch with horses. They listen to her and love her back. Joan has not only touched the lives of many horse people, but touched the lives of many horses.
Joan has been through a stroke, which can be debilitating. Joan does not let that stop her. She moves on and works hard. She has been back in the saddle this year and looked great! Joan is a true horsewoman and a true friend!

Courtney!
I'd like to nominate my sister, (Court) for the EE Rider of the Month.
I have tons of reasons to..but to keep it short I will only name a few.
First of all Courtney is an awesome rider, and sticks to something if she can't
get it right. She never gives up at anything, just keeps trying, cause in the
long run it pays off! And she's become a great rider because of it.
Second, she never puts anyone down!!! At shows she's always saying good job
or good luck! to whoever and I'm so happy that she has started riding with me.
She's a great little kid whos always happy! If she gets first she doesnt show
it off or anything; if she doesnt place she's just happy that herself and the
horse she is riding did as good as they can even if the judge didnt see that.
Third she doesn't mind not having her own horse. Yes, it does bug her at
times because she doesnt always know if she has one to ride. I know most people
would be mad at their parents all the time if their older sister or brother had
one. But Court has learned to accept that and say hey, I'll have my turn when
the time comes!!
And fourth, she's a great sister to have, always fun to be around (at times )
Thats why I choose Court, my sister to be Rider of the Month on EE!!

Kayla and Chase!
I would like to nominate Kayla and "Chase The Clouds" for horse and rider of the month for May 2007.
Kayla has being riding for 5 years, 3 1/2 at PineHill Equestrian Center and 1 1/2 at WindCrest Stables. For
the first 6 months at WindCrests she rode Jewel and Star, when Anne Merritt decided to upgrade
her to a bigger horse, Chase. Her first ride was fun, she fell in love with him on the first
ride. Now she rides chase every lesson and whenever she can.
Kayla has being leasing Chase for the past 12 months or so. She brought him to 2 horse
shows already, Salmon River and Restless Pines. At Salmon river, she got reserve champion,
1st, 2nd,3rd,4th,5th and 6th and at Restless Pines she got reserve champion 1st,2nd,3rd,4th,
5th and 6th.
Kayla has come VERY far with this horse and will certainly go alot further.
In her lesson with Anne Merrit she jumps up to 2'6 and at her horse shows she jumped 18 inch
crossrails.
Please nominate Kayla ang "Chase The Clouds" for horse and rider of the month, she REALLY
deserves this!!

Donna and Chance!
I'd like to nominate The Great White and her fine steed Chance as horse and rider of the month.
Donna bought Chance in the middle of a winter frigid spell...frozen ground, extreme low
temps...she had little oppurtunity to try him out. They fell in love!!! Shortly after
purchase Chance became very lame. One vet wanted to euthanize him! But no no no ...Donna
spent weeks and many dollars on making the gentle old guy feel comfy and trying to find out
exactly what has going on with him. After a lot of vet visits, x-rays, ultra sounds and
frustration, Chance pulled through and off they went again together. BUT then they had a
winter riding accident in which Donna fractured her pelvis and ended up in bed for weeks....
and now ...have you noticed????? Chance takes care of her! They are a fabulous team...truly
love each other. They are both great friends to everyone they meet...a joy to be around.

Lyda and Feta!
I would like to nominate my mom (2manymares, or Lyda) as rider of the month, for many reasons. The first being her ambition and dedication to each and every critter that she has the responsibility of looking after, including my gals. There isn't one moment of any given day that she isn't thinking about "what horse needs more bedding," ; "is it too cold/windy/hot to put them out, do they need to come in, and who will be here to help me if they do?" ; "or "what horse needs their blankets changed". All of these things I'm mentioning, are thought of with unquestionable care, and definite enjoyment. In fact, the few times she's asked me to feed supper, or do the 'bed-lunch', I'm sure there was a letter about 5 pages long describing 'who gets what feed, or supplements' and at least 2-3 phone calls to be sure everyone was ok. The 21 horses residing at the barn are definitely a hand-full, but she never seems to show signs of fatigue when I am certain I would. Thanks to her exceptional helpers, she is able to somehow handle this huge responsibility. I am envious. : )
The second reason I would like to nominate 2manymares, is for the great fear of horses she has overcome in the past years. When we became owners of our first horse, seems like forever ago, she was tense and uneasy when asked to lead the yearling. I just can't get over the dramatic change I've seen in her, it is a real inspiration. She now has no problem disciplining our "babies" Lexie and Lilly, and can get down-to-business when riding her horse Feta. It's great to see the progress the two have made together, from the first time she got on, nervous to ask for a jog, to now loping around the ring without hesitation, laughing and smiling, usually accompanied by our friend and neighbor Lilian on her big app. 2manymares is passionate about caring for these buggars, and everything that goes along with it. Even though I don't say it enough, I REALLY appreciate everything she does, and so do all her other dependents. : )

Dominik and Edgy!
This is a little unusual, that the same horse would make Horse of the Month
exactly a year after first doing so, but it just seemed right!
Dominik wrote to me wanting to nominate Edgy for this honour for this reason:
I saw the picture of Jazmine and Edgy, they were
Horse and Rider of the month, well I have to say that now I am now the proud
owner of Edgy :)
I was just wondering if you could put him horse of the month, he is the best
horse, Jazz really had him all tuned up when he came to my house and still
is. I would love to say thanks to Jazz and Sue for making this happen for me
;) Thanks guys :
I guess you are a special horse Edgy!

Morgan and Century!
I would like to nominate Morgan & Century.
I have never seen a bond between a horse and rider like this ever before. These are two wild
hearts that beat as one. Morgan and Century have a special connection that is truly touching
to see.
Morgan & Century are the reigning champions of: smallfry walk/trot, smallfry down & back,
smallfry barrel racing, *tie* smallfry pole bending, and are the Res. champions of: smallfry
showmanship and smallfry trail. They hold the title of High Point Smallfry Pleasure,
High Point Smallfry Gymkhana, and High Point Smallfry (overall). Morgan was also awarded
Most Improved Rider, which was voted on by the Cape Breton Western Riders members.
Morgan is an amazing rider, and I she and Century truly deserve this honor. :)

Faithful Fair One and Minstrel!
This is a nomination I'd like to make. Having read through hundreds of posts by FFO,
laughed my guts out at the hilarious stories of her horses antics (homo horsies anyone?)
and her incredible insights into the human male; chewed my finger nails to the quick
over the trials and tribulations of moving reluctant boys to their beautiful new home; but
I was especially touched by the pictures and story of her long love affair with a special
man, her first horse Minstrel.
Theirs is a relationship to be envied by all; to be aspired to by every horse person. May
we all love and be loved for decades by at least one special horse!

Island Spirit and Tess!
I would like to nominate my best friend Island Spirit to be newest rider
of the month.
Island Spirit has overcame something that many of us riders battle with on a
regular basis, Fear and Loss of confidence. For most of us fear comes when
we have a fall. For Island Spirit it was worse. When she was 15 she was out
trail riding when she was struck by a car. (Hit and run) Although her and
her horse healed quickly Island Spirit dealt with the fears of getting back
in the saddle, especially on her mare. Several years ago Island Spirit sold
her mare. This was a tough decision but she felt it was the best thing for
her horse. Even thought she was no longer riding/ showing regularly she keep
horses apart of her life For the past few years she has been a Standardbred
groom, and is quite good I might add.
But along came Tess a sweet little appy mare that got Island Spirit back
in the saddle.
So this is why I feel my best friend deserves to be rider of the month. She
overcame her fears and is back in the saddle. I am sooo proud of her!!!!
Through thick and thin she has always been there for me. She is the greatest
pal any horse crazy gal could ask for.
Keep up the Good work Island Spirit I am so proud!

ALF and her crew: Tiffany, Dudley and Kiss!
This woman is one of the kindest, funniest, warm hearted women I know.
She used to be my riding coach, and I learned so much and had SOO much fun.
We have shared a lot of laughs, and after years of losing track of her, I finally found her again thru EE.
(Just one more reason this site if so wonderful!).
She has been through some really rough times, but she always has a smile on her face, and a story to share.
Over the Christmas holidays she opened her doors to my friends and I, and we had such an incredible time.
We “stopped in” for a quick hello, and ended up snuggled up beside the fire, pretty much instantly had mugs of hot chocolate in our hands, and ended up laughing and carrying on for the better part of 4 hours!!!! The boys said it doesn’t matter if I’m with them or not, they’re going to visit her (and her incredible hubby) anyway!
I’m hoping once I’m back where I belong (meaning on the East Coast) that she would take up position as my coach again. Regardless, she’s a forever type of friend!
If the world had more people like Victoria, it would be a much better place.
It’s hard to pick which horse I should nominate her with though.
First is the wonderful QH mare she taught me on, Kiss. She’s 27 years young this year and still a wonderful mount.
Vick has had this wonderful mare in her life for SO long (I BELIEVE 11 years?), and it’s apparent when they’re together how much they mean to each other.
Second is Dudley who was Vick’s first penning mount! I got to snuggle with him this Christmas and what a charming fellow he is!
They won… (I’m not sure if this is the exact award, gee I should get my facts before I do these things.. ) Top Amateur Penning team last year??
She has since surrendered this wonderful little fellow to her OTHER wonderful fellow (ie- husband) so he can become a little more involved in her world.
Lastly, Tiffany-Vick’s QH/Arab mare. Vick had her eye on Tiffany for… I believe It was 8 years, before FINALLY in February, she got to buy her.
She is a beautiful mare and they make a great team, and I look forward to hearing and seeing all their accomplishments together for many years to come.

Frannie and Amigo!
I met Frannie ( Aka DLC ) in 1998, at River Ranch. She leased a horse from me and
he was the meanest quarter horse ever but they got along great. She trail rode him,
showed him some, then we lost touch for about 2 years.
I saw her at Lawrencetown Ex riding this huge Belgian cross horse, who was very full of life!
So we got chatty again and kept in touch after that. She came and stayed with us for about 6 months.
She has accomplished alot over the past years with horses, such as, two Amateur's Penning
Championships, Senior Western Pleasure Overall, Reserve Overall Championship and Reserve
Senior Gymkhana Over all.
She moved down the road from me so we hang and travel together to shows or just going
to visit friends. Frannie has big big goals and knowing her she will get them all.
She is a good friend whom I wish will always be in my life.

Jasmine and Edgy!
Jasmine started riding about 5 years
ago down at Sue's (aka Lillie). When she first sat in the saddle she could barely keep her
feet in the stirrups, but with time and a few 100 lessons from Sue she was soon cooling down
penning horses and playing around in pony club. For her first two years of riding Jaz had
to borrow horses, but soon wanted one of her own. So she began to do all the grunt work she
could, she wanted to prove to her parents she truly deserved a horse.
In 2004 her parents finally decided it was time to reward all of Jaz's hard work. They agreed
to let her lease a horse. So Sue introduced her to Edgy, a feisty Arab cross. Jaz was in Love!
Sue told her she could board him at her place in exchange for barn chores. She also let Jaz
know that Edgy needed alot of work. He was green broke at best, and full of energy from being
out to pasture for 3 years. So for one bruised filled year, Jaz rode Edgy almost everyday
and almost everyday got bucked off. But Jaz was not deterred! Everytime her butt hit the
ground, she got right back up and continued on. She was determined to prove to her parents
she could handle her own horse.
All the hard work was worth it, this past March Edgy became hers and they finally came
together as a team. They now fly over 4 foot fences and maneuver through dressage courses
with ease. Jasmine deserves to be rider of the week for showing us the true meaning of
perseverance. Also kudos to Edgy for teaching Jaz that the best things in life don't always
come easily.
Congratulations Jaz, see you in the show ring in 2006!
